I’m currently at the Haibane Renmei panel at SGMS. I’m typing this to distract myself from watching all of the clips that are playing on the projector right now. Since I haven’t seen the show in its entirety, I’m worried about spoilers. The following is going to consist of whatever comes to mind. It will likely be SGMS related gibberish and extremely sarcastic, but so it goes.

This panel is actually quite interesting. This guy reall knows what he’s talking about, but it went from being "lets-talk-about-awesome-ABe's-work-is" to  "let's-tell-the-whole-story-of-Haibane-Renmei." I feel like I'm being punished for leaving this series on my shelf for as long as I have. I discovered this series a few years ago and I’ve only ever seen the first episode. The worst part is that I’ve watched that first episode multiple times. I could be well over halfway through the series but for some reason I just keep rewatching the same episode.

Last night I recorded the first part of my audio coverage of this event. I've done most of the editing so far, but its still pretty rough. I want to get these out as soon as possible, but it feels like something is missing. I guess I shouldn’t worry about it that much because I'll have to wait until Sunday night to upload them anyway. I have internet at the hotel--and here at MCAD--but I'm not sure if it's fast enough to FTP the files at a reasonable speed. I also wanted to add some background music to cover up the editing mistakes.

So far this event is really enjoyable. There hasn't been much going on, but that’s mostly due to fact that it's small thing in the corner of a college. I‘m not sure MCAD is big enough to host a large convention, but that's what‘s so great about it. It’s like they took the best panels from a convention and removed the annoying kids with “hug me” signs and Naruto headbands. Technically, there are few cosplayers, but I could count that number on one hand.

He's still showing clips from episodes I haven‘t seen.

After this panel, there going to be a presentation on the work of Mamoru Oshii. I don't know much about the man. I know that he wrote the manga that inspired Jin-Roh--that movie was incredible. I suppose he also directed Ghost in the Shell, I guess. I recall the episode of Anime World Order where they said, "Oshii is the kind of guy where if his wife died, he might be kind of upset. But if his dog died, he would be devastated. I mean, he's still not over the death of his cat." Just based on that, he sounds like a pretty neat guy.

As much as I love being here right now, it would be equally as cool if I was at the New York Anime Festival. I'm excited to meet Crispin Freeman and ABe, but the fact that Hideyuki Kikuchi--that madman that created Wicked City--is there, is almost just as cool. Not the mention the fact that a never before published work of his is going to be in the con guide! I also would've loved to see the Gekiga panel that Rym and Scott (GeekNights) run. Unfortunately, this will be the last time the run that panel.

I thought that bringing my laptop would be a great idea. I wish I would've considered that bringing my power cord was an equally great idea. My battery is at 40% power right now. It was at 70% at the beginning of this spoiler-fest, and will no doubt be dead within the next hour. I guess I'll have to take notes the hard way for the rest of the day.

I'm beginning to think that this panel is meant to be point-for-point summary of the show. This is unfortunate, because I was really looking forward to this presentation. He's doing a good job, but I've only seen the first episode, and he's about to show clips from the last episode--not a good combination.

Later tonight, there's going to be and anime showing in one of the rooms here. I'm not sure what, but I'm torn between wanting it to be something awesome and wanting it to be something that I don't care about. I'd like it to be awesome because of obvious reasons, but I want it to suck so I can go back to my hotel room and do homework. It's kind of ironic that the one time where I plan to do something for the weekend I have a bunch of stuff due on Monday.

It just occurred to me that I've never posted a blog entry without a podcast attached. I'm not sure if that’s a good idea or not. I suppose it doesn't matter because no one checks the site anyway. If they do, I doubt they’ll read all of this

I bought a new copy of the Welcome to the NHK book at Borders. The goal is to have ABe sign it tomorrow, but that may or may not happen. I wish I would've thought to bring a DVD or something. I have just about every anime he's worked on. I just need the rest of Texnolyze. More than that, I wish I would've brought Boogiepop Phantom for Crispin to sign. Oh well.

They're selling a bunch of doujin that ABe's done upstairs. It's too bad I don't have any cash on me.

Look forward to the audio portion of my SGMS coverage. It should be out in a few days. If I can find some decent music to put behind what I've already done, I might attempt to upload that later tonight. I wouldn't get your hopes up though because the internet at the Days Inn is pretty terrible. It looks like these clips are going to finish up pretty soon, and if that’s not the case, I'm sure my laptop is about to die. See you later.
