I first realized what the term “futanari” meant when I was 11, and sadly, my life has never been the same. For those who don’t know, futanari can mean both the depiction of chicks with dicks in anime and manga, as well as the female individuals in question. As with many sexual taboos such as pedophilia and incest, H-mangakas have little to no qualms about exploring futanari in their works. Now, I want to get it right out there and say that Boku no Futatsu no Tsubasa is not a hentai manga, although the mangaka, Toshiki Yui, is responsible for a few H-titles. The main difference being that in this series they don’t show the dick.
Boku no Futatsu no Tsubasa, or My Two Wings, starts with Hiromi Ishimaru, your average Japanese high school girl. She enjoys karaoke, ramune, and other stuff—but she’s not important. The one we’re really interested in is Makoto Kashiwagi, Hiromi’s cousin who’s taller, prettier, with a sweet rack and a penis! Wait…? That’s right; our girl Makoto has both sets of reproductive organs. Not only that, but she’s moving in with Hiromi and her mother.
So what do you do when you’re the new hot herm at school? Why you bone everything with a pulse, that’s what! Now for the record, Makoto isn’t a just a random slut. She just wants to see what both sides of the sexual spectrum are like. So shortly after Makoto gets used to her new school, she loses her [male] virginity and almost loses her [female] virginity. She also becomes the most popular girl in school. It seems that girls are more open to lil’ Makoto’s secret that guys are. As a result she has several more female partners, one of which is her own cousin.
You’re probably wondering why’s Makoto the way that she is. Clearly this couldn’t just be a rare genetic mutation--no, no, no… The reason this lotus flower is carrying a stem and a bud is because her father is an alien! When Hiromi’s mother was young, she was seduced (kidnapped) by a race of aliens. They looked similar to human women except one thing: they have both penises and vaginas. When Hiromi’s mother returned to Earth, she learned that she was pregnant with an alien baby. Oh yeah, did I mention that Hiromi’s adopted and that her and Makoto are in no way related by blood (not that it makes it any less creepy).
Towards the end, we find out that a man named Akibo has learned Makoto’s secret and is desperate to expose her as proof that aliens exist. How does ol’ Akibo go about apprehending our young heroine? By rounding up a bunch of gun-toting tough guys to kidnap everybody that Makoto knows. This is rather easy since they’re all conveniently within 10 feet of each other stalking Makoto while she’s trying to have her “girl debut.”
During this time that we learn of Makoto psychic powers (bet you didn’t see that coming!) as she flips out and almost destroys the rooms everybody is in. It’s at this point that Makoto decides to abide by her “father’s” wishes and leaves for her home planet; however, she promptly returns to declare her love for Hiromi.
My Two Wings vividly depicts the difficulties that come with being a hermaphrodite alien psychic in modern day Japan (Wait…what?). It is satisfying read that I believe will go on to be an instant classic.
