News: Sentai Filmworks to Dub Clannad [UPDATE]

by fightbait on March 15, 2010

Moments ago, the official Twitter account for Sentai Filmworks announced that they would be dubbing some of their more popular sub-only releases. Among them was Clannad, Ghost Hound, Legend of the Dark King, Blue Drop, and Tears to Tiara. The tweets in question mentioned they were dubbing five titles in addition to Clannad, but the fifth title has yet to be announced. I have my fingers crossed for Skull Man.

UPDATE: I just read a press release courtesy of Anime News Network which states that they will, in fact, only be dubbing the five titles mentioned above. The original tweet was a little misleading, but my haste in getting my news post up before anyone else is also at fault.

The ADR work for Clannad will be handled, for better or worse, by Stephen Foster. There will also be an "upgrade" program for fan that purchased the sub-only releases, though I'm unsure how that program will work.

Clannad’s humour won’t translate well. I’m sure of it. Sunohara’s lines will be ruined. I hereby refuse to buy the dubs.

That is all.

I’d be more concerned about Steven Foster’s humor being nonexistent. He has a habit of rewriting the dub scripts. Although I feel like the fans of Clannad won’t put up with his antics, so he might leave it be this time.
