About five minutes ago I had the pleasure of meeting Yoshitoshi ABe and Crispin Freeman. I expected a huge line, but there’s so much going on in other parts of the building that the crowd was actually quite small. I had ABe sign my Welcome to the NHK book. He seemed surprised when I handed it to him. I’m guessing he didn’t know that there was an English adaptation. The best part though is that he did a quick sketch on the cover of the book. I’m pretty sure that makes reading this book off limits. Luckily, I have another copy at home.
Although meeting ABe was pretty cool, the highlight was Crispin Freeman recording a bumper for the podcast. It was a fleeting thought the other day to ask him to do it, but when I ran into him in the bathroom I sort of panicked and ran away (I tell that story in more detail in the first part of my SGMS coverage). Autograph time came and I figured the worse that could happen was that he would say no. Its almost too cool to only use once, but it would get annoying if I played it at the beginning of all future podcasts.
He was also nice enough to sign my Boogiepop at Dawn book even though he technically didn’t have anything to do with it. He said that he’s signed Hellsing manga in the past as well, so I know I’m not the only fool who has forgotten s to bring their Boogiepop Phantom Volume 2 DVD.
To close this up I present you with the pictures I had taken with the two of the most influential people in my history as an anime fan. I guess that means you’ll see what I look like now. So it goes.
