News: Lost Planet 2 Multiplayer Versus Demo

Capcom recently announced that a multiplayer demo for Lost Planet 2 will be available by the end of next month–April 21 for Xbox 360, April 22 for PS3. However, fans will be able to download the demo as early as March 31 if they acquire a “community-distributed voucher code.” Capcom has also changed the street date for Lost Planet 2 to May 11, which is one week earlier than previously scheduled.

While I can’t say that I’m foaming at the mouth for one of those codes, I am very excited for Lost Plant 2. When I first bought my 360, Lost Planet was–and probably still is–the game that I logged the most hours into. The campaign was only okay, but the online multiplayer was crazy amounts of fun. I have to wonder though–how often does a company release two demos for the same game?

If you an early access code, I suggest you keep an eye on the official Capcom blog.

Also in Capcom news, you can now purchase Resident Evil 5: Collectors Edition for $45! This deal won’t be available for long, and you can only find it in the official Capcom store.

Review: Resident Evil 5 DLC/Gold Edition

Despite its faults, Resident Evil 5 is one of my favorite games in recent history. It’s essentially Resident Evil 4 with better graphics and co-op, and a lot of people were bothered by that. However, that’s exactly what I was looking for, so Resident Evil 5 ended up being the catalyst in my purchasing an Xbox 360.

I’ll be the first to admit that it wasn’t a perfect game, but between replaying the campaign with my roommate and grinding it out in Mercenaries mode, it’s definitely among the most played of my games. Because of this, the announcement of new missions and costume packs was very exciting.

With Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition coming out tomorrow, the question is this: If you haven’t already purchased Resident Evil 5, should you bother getting the Gold Edition. The answer of course is, “Yes.” Resident Evil 5 was already pretty damn good, and the Gold Edition is the same game, $10 cheaper, and has all the bonus content included.

But what is all this bonus content about anyway? Read the rest of this entry →

News: Resident Evil 5 Desperate Escape DLC Out Today

A few days ago I said I would try to start reporting on news items, but that I hadn’t seen anything that caught my eye yet. Well, it only makes sense that my first endeavor into nerd journalism be something incredibly bias like, “Hey guys, give Capcom all your money!”

If you’re one of the cool kids, and have an Xbox 360, you can now purchase the Desperate Escape DLC and Costume Packs for Resident Evil 5. PS3 owners will have to wait until tomorrow (Sorry, Chad Warden). The new mission runs for about $5, and the costumes are around $2.

The last mission they released, Lost in Nightmares, was only an hour of gameplay, so I expect the same to be true of Desperate Escape. Frankly, Capcom is the one video game company where I would willingly give them money just because, so the length of the first DLC didn’t bother me. Even Square-Enix doesn’t have the power to make me foam at the mouth at the thought of being allowed to buy the same game twice (I’m looking at you, Super Street Fighter 4).

I’m not sure what the story of the new DLC is, nor do I care. There was also mention that the rest of the characters in Mercenaries Reunion will be unlocked when you purchase the DLC (specifically the costumes, I would imagine).

If you’re a pussy, and you never bought Resident Evil 5 to begin with, you might as well wait until next week when Gold Edition drops. It’s only $50, and will include all of the previously mentioned DLC.
